An excellent adventure

One Week Mount Toubkal Trek

This is an excellent trek, culminating in a challenging but very rewarding summit of Toubkal. Late snow meant that we needed a revised itinerary and it was comforting to know this level of preparation was involved. The revised itinerary worked seamlessly. The trekking covered varied terrain with lots of tough ascents and (equally tough) descents. There was also a small bit of scrambling, which was great fun. The party I was with started as strangers but soon became friends. Hassan, our trek guid e, was excellent; very knowledgeable and engaging. Chris Gill (who joined us from KE) was an absolute star!

A REAL MUST FOR TREKKING CULTURE VULTURES!

Towers and Trails of Cappadocia

This walking holiday was a relaxed venture that took in the best of the UNESCO Heritage Site valleys of Cappadocia - that house historical rock hewn churches and settlements of incredible magnitude. The accommodation was first rate and located close to the walking activities. The holiday consisted of a series of 6 days walking in picturesque landscape and archaeology - sometimes 2 or 3 valleys/areas in each day.

Our driver would take us and our tour guide Ibrahim by air conditio ned minibus from the hotel to a walk start point - and collect us at the finish of each of the linear routes. Lunch would be taken at the end of a valley route - or a slight deviation along the way. A nice touch was stopping at hidden little home owned farm drink stalls/cafes selling freshly pressed orange juice!

Ibrahim was extremely knowledgeable in the local history - and was adept at picking out the highlights of each route and site. I especially liked the way he made each day better than the previous one. This always left the group really looking forward to the next day. He also knew the local restaurants well, and we were never disappointed in his choices of eating venues. Ibrahim's recommendations of food choices never failed to disappoint.

If you're going to undertake ONE KE Adventure trip in your life - DO THIS ONE!

An Excellent Adventure

Choquequirao to Machu Picchu

This nine day trek was brilliantly guided and organized, beginning with excellent facilitation of all trip details, transfers, informational sessions and packets. It was an aggressive trek, but well planned. We felt safe and well cared for throughout. The trek offers stunning vistas, Inca ruins, diverse floristic ecosystems, bountiful glacier topped ranges, condors, and much more, including a chance to meet local Peruvians in the highlands and get a feel for a lifestyle like few others experien ce. A perfect trip, but recommend getting in good physical condition before hand. Lots of endurance and strength conditioning will make the trip a real joy.

Challenging, Informative, Exotic, Fun

One Week Mount Toubkal Trek

We chose this holiday because some of the more traditional treks in Europe didn't fit our schedule. I'm very glad we did. This trek ended up having a little bit of everything -- an introduction to Berber culture, a challenging climb, great scenery, excellent food, a visit to exotic (for us) Marrakesh, and a chance to meet some great people, including our superb guide, Hassan. A couple of things to keep in mind before booking, though: There are a couple of days when you won't h ave access to any water beyond the drinking water that they'll bring with the mules, so you'll be a little dirtier than you might be on some other treks. For us, that just added to the adventure, and hot showers were available soon enough. Also, keep in mind that KE Adventure's strenuousness ratings are based on a scale that includes one of the seven summits at the top, so a 6 means that it's pretty strenuous. I've been on half a dozen treks through some challenging mountains, so I thought that the 6 rating for this one meant that I didn't have to train to the same level. I was wrong. The climb and accompanying descent are certainly doable by an experienced trekker and Hassan made certain that everyone who was capable made it to the top, but it requires above-average fitness and stamina. The last day is 12 hours of hard walking, and a few of us were certainly flagging by the end. I wanted to blame it on my age (62), but there was another member of our group who was a couple of years older and who had, in fact, trained pretty intensely, and he seemed to bear up better.

This was a great trip that we'll remember forever. Highly recommended.

Rewarding trip especially if interested in remote monasteries

I joined this tour in Oct 2015 to see Phuksundo Lake and in particular to visit the remote monasteries. The tour was most rewarding. Tour leader Ben Walker was an experienced mountain guide. He was fun to travel with and share stories. He had a wealth of experience. Everything went smoothly, but if it didn't, I'm sure Ben would have known what to do. Sirdar Sonam was very familiar with the route, having lead many tours there. He was a gentle man, very friendly, and spoke good English. He was very sensitive to our needs or concerns, and would take action on even a passing comment. The staff clearly respected him and was very efficient. Sonam was assisted by three Sherpas, two highly experienced and one rookie. They didn't speak much English, but were friendly and looked after us very well on the trail. As on all these trips, the cooking crew worked very hard. The meals were adequate, nothing special except for the pizzas which were the best I've had on any trek. At lunch, fried spam was on four day rotation. Makes me gag. After the second time, I got wise, asked the server for a veg plate on those occasions, and received a slice of tasty cheese in place of the spam. Problem solved. I gathered Sonam, the Sherpas, and cooking crew are a team that regularly work together. The muleteers, however, were local lads. They had a really hard job to load and unload the mules, and feed them. I was very impressed by one lad, when we faced an unexpected stream crossing (bridge washed out since last season), who did not hesitate to stand barefooted in the fast-moving icy water for 15-20 minutes to help us across. Several of us clients crossed in boots. Boots off for me and most others. The outfitting was wholly inadequate, I am sorry to report. These were Ozark tents, probably knock offs, which had been repaired (per Sirdar). The replacement zips were suitable for trousers, not tents. So our problems were continuous. Candlewax, swapping tents, using the ventilation door instead of the regular door. Alas. Also the tent floors were dished. I am short and just about fit. Taller clients slept diagonally. This was an expensive trip, but it did seem that profit came before both safety and comfort. The tour grading of strenuous is appropriate, if for no other reason than the Kangla pass. The ascent was relentlessly steep, and the descent was through ice and scree. The other 5000m passes, Sheyla and Jangla, were ordinary on the up and down. I would further describe the tour as winter camping, because half the mornings, there was ice in my water bottle. During two nights it snowed maybe 4-5cm (in Tokyu and first camp on Tarap Khola). Dolpa is sparely populated. There was relatively little village life to see. If your primary interest is village life with monasteries coming second, I recommend Manaslu Circuit hands down. If your main interest is monasteries and remote trekking, this tour will not disappoint. Enjoy !!

We are sorry to hear you had problems with your tent. The Ozark tents we use for this trip are also used by High Altitude Mountaineering expeditions. In the dry dusty climate of Dolpo, all tent zips can stick occasionally and the crew are usually adept at solving this problem. We do continuously check and replace our tent stock in Nepal and we have communicated your feedback to our store manager. If the tent is faulty it will be taken out of service.

A Mary Poppins experience - perfect in every way!

Levada Trails and Peaks of Madeira

This was my first trip with KE and my first time in Madeira. What a combination - the perfect holiday in every way. Communications and the booking process worked like a dream. All the information I needed was sent in good time, and in clear, precise format. On arrival in Funchal I was whisked away to the hotel with clear instructions of what would happen next. I met the other members of the group, and the star of the show, our guide Roberto. I could write a book extolling his virtues, but in a r educed version, he constantly kept the safety of the group members as his number one priority. He quickly assessed the capabilities of individual group members and tailored the walks to ensure everyone found it both manageable and challenging. His local knowledge was incredible, ranging through history and culture, politics, cuisine, flora and fauna, geology .... I could go on. Suffice to say that he kept us thoroughly informed and happily answered all of our questions with a quick wit and approachable, entertaining manner. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and if he is an example of the standards which KE demand of their local guides, I can safely say I would not hesitate to make another booking. In fact I have already done so, on the Juniper Trust Nepal Trek in November 2016. The standard of hotels was excellent, rooms were clean and comfortable, and the amazing food was locally sourced and traditionally prepared. The packed lunches were to die for - so imaginative and beautifully prepared. No cheese and pickle sandwiches here!! The walks were varied and interesting, and in some places very challenging with lots of steep gradients, tunnels and narrow rocky paths. Exciting stuff! Our transport was using local taxi firms who obviously took safety, cleanliness, efficiency and friendliness seriously. Travel arrangements home went equally smoothly, with airport transfer efficiently on time and a charming driver. Even the weather was kind to us, with sunshine every day. All in all, a perfect holiday which I would recommend to anyone, and which I am longing to sample again.

wonderful!

The Pyrenees on Foot Walking Holiday

We had a great time. It was cushy compared to some of the treks we've done, since one is staying in a hotel, the same one, the whole week. Nothing against those other treks, but it was quite nice not to be in a tent! The hikes were very well chosen, taking into account late snow. Our guide, Cyrille, was knowledgeable, nice, funny, and sweet. He spoke excellent English and, of course, French. Aside from us two from Canada (we have some French but, in all honesty, we functionally speak just English) and a couple from Russia (Russian and English, but no French) everybody else was from France. Although some were completely fluent in English, not everybody was, so we got the dual-language coverage from Cyrille--it was great! If I could have done that for a few more weeks, my French would be a lot less pathetic!
(First time on a KE trek with no Brits. Hmmmm...)
Anyhow, people were really nice. We were staying in Toulouse after the week of trekking, and one of our trekmates lives there, so she showed us around one afternoon. How kind!
The hotel was fine, and the cook was excellent. He handled my vegetarianism with aplomb. Not sure how he'd have done if I were vegan. I think it might be impossible to be vegan in France :-)
The hiking really is beautiful--varied landscapes and lots of history. I'll try to post some pics. I highly recommend the trip. The rating is right. Though there were some ascents that felt like work, there was nothing that would push it out of the 4-range.

Walking Croatia's Coast and Islands

This trip consisted of myself and two close friends so felt like a private trip. The country was fantastic, the weather just warm enough and the scenery amazing. Darko our guide was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for him. As there was only the three of us we stayed in very small hotels of an excellent standard. The food was lovely, lots of fresh fish and veg. Recommend that you try the strawberries, they are delicious. A lovey trip

Just about perfect

The Ultimate Everest Trek

The organization and care shown by Prem, our KE group leader on the trek, was top class. The local guides however were poor but Prem went above and beyond to ensure they did not affect our enjoyment too much. None of the group suffered from altitude sickness. This was due to taking Diamox from Namche onwards on our outbound journey, and to the planned days off for acclimatization purposes. Take wet wipes for when the toilets/washing facilities are poor and something to do in the many afternoon h ours when trekking has stopped. DO NOT USE TURKISH AIRLINES - they cancelled my manchester/Istanbul flight and then Istanbul/Manchester without compensation and causing untold problems for me. KE (or more likely local agent) chose the best accommodation available on the whole. This trip is real value for money.

Excedllent apart from weather first week and tea houae at Debouche.

Everest Yeti Trail Luxury Lodge Trek

Guide (Milan), sirdar (Nadee) and helpers (2 sherpas) very good. Yeti Montain Homes excellent: would never use tea houses in Nepal again. Sadly couldn't go to Kongde and replacement accommodation at Debouche nowhere near that standard. Had to ask for flask of boiled water in room and for toilet paper. These were apparently chargeable but Nadee sorted everything out. Electric blankets seemed a recently added feature and wires were trailing dangerously over the floor. Needed head torches. Plu g sockets were amazing and seemed to take any sort of plug: 2 or 3 pin.

We are pleased you thought the Yeti Mountain Homes were excellent. They are something special and most people do not expect to find such surprisingly well appointed and comfortable accommodation high in the Himalaya, several days walk from the nearest road. As we informed your group prior to departure, the Kongde Yeti Mountain Home suffered some damage during the Spring 2015 earthquake and so for this night, the group was accommodated in the best alternative lodge in Debouche. You are right that these 'tea-houses' - where an electric blanket is the height of luxury - seem quite rustic by comparison. We expect to be able to return to Kongde next season.

Demanding but totally rewarding, one trip not to miss.

The Inca Trail and Beyond

We are two very active outdoor enthusiasts, the trip was booked to give us a challenge in a new country, it did just that. The height gain was difficult for most, me included, underfoot conditions were good, pre Inca trail section was remote but this in itself made this trip so good, no crowds here, just mountains of great stature. On reaching the Inca Trail the crowds arrived too, but this was not a problem and only added to the whole atmosphere. On reaching Machu Picchu this was a totally emot ional experience for 4 tired happy Trekkers. Anyone thinking of booking this trip should go and do so, arrive fit, prepared to experience Altitude related conditions, walk light,use poles, be prepared to snap away on phone or camera, take back up batteries, little chance of recharging during the trip.

Best ever

Annapurna Sanctuary and Poon Hill Trek

I chose KE on my daughter's recommendation, she said that the KE team were so helpful and friendly.

I have to agree, this was by far one of the best treks I have been on. The organisation from start to finish was first class, full marks to Kami our guide and his team.

The KE team could not have been more helpful or efficient, I enjoyed the experience so much I am off to Peru end of June.

Interesting and enjoyable walking holiday in Crete

Walking the White Mountains of Crete

Booking procedures prior to holiday were good and clear.
Check list of items to take relevant (do take waterproofs since it did rain and warm items for the mountains since it was cold for us on Pachnes, even though there was no snow).
Hotels/rooms were good. Food tasty and enough. The odd muesli bar worth taking but often provided when needed.
Walking mainly on paths but some were rough. I come from Scotland so am used to stony paths/rough descents. Day along the coast w as lovely with the sound of the sea. Gorges were very impressive. Both mountain days were interesting, Gingilos was warm but Pachnes cold at the summit. Our Guide was excellent and knowledgeable on plants.
The sea was too rough one day so we had a day without luggage, carrying the essentials extras for overnight. None of the group minded this (or carried much extra)!
Overall a super holiday with some mixed weather (for Crete) though we never got really wet.

Walking the White Mountains of Crete

Brilliant variety of walking and mountains and gorges and sun and Greece and .... everything. The trip experience, for me, is all the richer because of Jean's support and care. The only day which could be improved, would the be drive to Pachnes, which is simply too long, and takes too much time out of the day. Top tip for other travellers, would be extend and include a night in Chania. Delightful. I left the functioning part of my heart in Chania, this time. Life changing stuff!

Fantastic Family Holiday

Okavango and Botswana Family Safari

A wonderful family camping experience with very personable and knowledgeable guides. Highlights included wild camping in the Okavango, Moremi and Savute, Victoria Falls and of course, all the wild animals. Although it was not the ideal time to go on safari as the was still plenty of greenery and water about, we saw plenty of animals and all the animals we were expecting to see, our favourite being the African wild dogs at a kill site which were were lucky enough to watch for an hour. Our guid es (Andrew, Izzy and Mellow) were very professional, easy going and good cooks. I'd highly recommend this trip.

Overwhelming life enhancing Himalayan adventure

Mera Peak

This was simply one of the greatest experiences of my "mountaineering" life. From the moment I realised our leader was "THE" Sherpa Pemba I realised we were heading for something very special. To spend 3 weeks in this environment with such a unique individual is something I will never forget. Another bonus was the new route for this expedition. I cannot recommend this highly enough. The first week was magnificent with almost total seclusion on amazing trails through lush flow er strewn forest leading to wonderful quirky lodges. I am sure this trail also greatly aided acclimatisation. The mountain experience has been well documented previously. Summit day is a considerable undertaking and the times suggested in the brochure are I think unrealistic so be prepared for a 16 hour day. That being said this was a day to end all days and the sunrise over the Himalayan chain including Everest and Makalu will be with me for ever. I simply loved this trip....exemplary leadership, close knit well bonded small group, stunning environment and lots of laughs. One piece of advice...well worth considering taking a supply of multi vitamins and electrolytic tablets for drinking water...there is essentially no fruit or veg for 2.5 weeks. Never thought I would see the day when I craved a tomato salad rather than a glass of red wine!!
