An amazing holiday in Southern Africa, well organised.

Cape Town to Victoria Falls Lodge Safari

Our (my wife and I) spent almost 4 weeks in Southern Africa, which was all well organised through KE Adventures. The middle three weeks were with Sunways Safari tours on a small group, accommodated trip. KE Adventures do well to be the UK representative for this Johannesburg based travel company; they are also very well organised and gave us a great trip. We started in Cape Town at Sweetest accommodation (we were in Sweetest Orange) which was a good choice. Well situation, very homely and lots o f local advice. We did all the tourist bits of Cape Town (Botanical gardens, Groot Constantia wines, Cape of Good Hope, Seal colony, District 6 museum, etc) and had a very good 2 days before the tour started. The tour had two excellent guides cum driver and cook. It was a small tour (which suited us) and was accommodated so we stayed in hotels, lodges and fixed tents (not quite glamping, but not roughing it either!). The tour up through Namibia, Botswana and into Zimbabwe has many highlights (dune 45, Etosha NP, Chobe NP and, possibly best of all, the Okavango delta). Be prepared for quite rough roads and lots of dust. Most places have laundry if you want, but more relaxing to just accept it and know that you will be clean again when you get to Vic Falls! At Vic Falls you can go over the bridge to the Zambia side (around a 3 Km walk) but must pass through immigration; make sure you get a dual visa at the border on the way in - for UK residents the price is the same at the moment. A meal in the Vic Falls is a wonderful bit of luxury to round of the trip. So, all in all an excellent trip, well organised from both the UK side (KE Adventures) and on the African side. Thoroughly recommended on both counts. One final point to note: - Nothing that can be done about it but you cannot pick who you go with. On our tour there were two very awkward people (out of 10 of us), however handled this as well as could be expected, as did the rest of the tour group to try and keep them in order. Just one of those things - you cannot let such situations spoil your own holiday.

Great walking trip

Across the Julian Alps to Triglav

Great hiking. Some tough bits but the days were never too long. Knowledgeable and friendly guides. We unfortunately walked in a cloud for a few days but whenever the clouds parted the views were gorgeous. The huts are generally basic but fine - you appreciate a bit of warmth and comfort food after the hiking!

What a great advert for Slovenia!

Across the Julian Alps to Triglav

Excellent walking. Full of challenges. Brilliant guides (Miha and David - thank you so much). Tip 1 - it's easy to miss that lunch and water need to be purchased each day. You should budget at least €150 for this. Tip 2 - stay an extra night in Ribcev Laz, on the shores of Lake Bohinj, at the end of the trip. Lovely spot, and an opportunity for some extra walking.

My first trip, I'll never forget!

One Week Mount Toubkal Trek

I was anxious about my first trip and first time travelling alone. But my guide and friends I met on the trip made me feel right at home which was a massive weight of my shoulders. I did this trip in the summer and the mid-day heat was quite intense at times. So pack a lot of sun cream! In the kit list it suggests to take water purification tablets but to be honest I would take a water filter (sawyer) instead as there were plenty of places to fill it up. Seeing the sun rise at the summit of Touk bal will be something I'll never forget! Would highly recommend this trip.

Amazing holiday - sublime area in which to trek!

Ausangate Circuit and Machu Picchu

The scenery around the Ausangate Circuit was spectacular - words and pictures really can't do it justice. I've done a lot of trekking and each trip usually has one or two views or particular locations that stick in the mind - the thing that was incredible about this trip was that there were days where every corner you turned would lead to another location more beautiful than the last. The lakes, rivers and mountain vistas were very special! Scenery aside, our Guide, Claudio, was great - his knowledge about the area and passion for trekking came through and made for an enjoyable trip. Machu Picchu was great, but hard to take a picture without someone in the background because there are so many tourists. On the trek itself, we barely saw another group the entire time we were walking, so if you want peace and tranquillity then this is definitely a trip to consider!

Beautiful wild area and a great guide

Traverse of the Picos de Europa

I really loved this area of mountains - much less busy and commercialised than the Alps or Dolomites but just as beautiful; fantastic wildlife and flora; and great to see Spanish people enjoying their own landscape. The huts were friendly and the food good, and the route varied and just challenging enough. Our guide, the lovely Rosana, was simply the best guide I've had in dozens of holidays. She was excellent in every way - very knowledgeable about the environment, great social and organis ational skills, very skilful with those nervous of heights, kind, fit, and above all good fun! She passed on her obvious love of these mountains.

Fantastic mountain adventure

GR20 Corsica - The Complete Route

This was a challenging, exciting and adventurous trip. Stunning scenery, big mountain days and awesome sunrises combined to make this a truly memorable experience. The accomodation was great- a mixture of hotels, gites and shepherds huts which more than catered for a gluten intolerant diet. We took, and would echo, the advice to sleep in a tent where possible as this was by far the better option; better views, more comfort...and quieter! Our guide was outstanding; knowledgeable, patient and took the time to ensure that every trekkers needs were more than catered for throughout the trip. We would highly recommend the GR20 with KE as it is a proper challenge and one that leaves you with an enormous sense of achievement.

Stunning walks in the Pyrenees with a superb guide

The Pyrenees on Foot Walking Holiday

These were fascinating walks in the Pyrenees, in a beautiful area with a guide who went the extra mile to cater for our needs. He was very knowledgeable and informative as well as bringing a real sense of fun to the trek. The other participants on the trek were all French speakers who made us feel very welcome and which added to the interest - some spoke very good English. The food and accommodation were excellent and Ax-les-Thermes is a beautiful small spa town in the Pyrenees. The walking was easily paced and my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed this holiday.

Sri Lanka - absolutely fantastic experience!

Ayubowan to everybody here! I was there with Elanor from Murthly in that amazing and colourful country. I can confirm that every word she has written in her review on 05/09/2017 were absolutely true. Sri Lanka is a magical island. The stray dogs and cats walk and sleep among people with no fear of being hurt. The elephants knock to a bus window to say ‘’have you got a spare banana mate?’’ Sri Lanka people welcome you with a smile and curiosity, incredible flavorous food and best tea ever . ?There are still beaches with no row of plastic sunbeds and umbrellas but full of picturesque wooden boats and catamarans. There are places that are accessible by ancient tin buses only which can survive condition of a remote road. Sri Lanka – former Ceylon – is an interesting mixture of Portuguese, Duchy and British influence in the past. I have chance to clap eyes on a rare species of a rock dog, (only in area of The Lion’s Rock), absolutely wild elephants, giant peacocks, giant trees and of course very giant and magnificent monuments of The Buddha. I fell in love with tuk-tuks forever! Bohoma istusti to our relentless guide Nuwan, our driver Goian and assistant Lasante. ? Sri Lanka, what a country, what a holiday

From Lions Rocks to the coastal resorts, the changing climate ,the many wild animals from the giant squirrel to the Elephant, the treks Adams Peak (this is a hard walk) the high lands, the valleys, Worlds end. And not forgetting our guide Nuwan Athapattu very knowledgeable and helpful. The train trip he arrange for us was unforgettable. Thank you KE and Nuwan. 10/10

An 'off the beaten track' trek with stunning scenery

Ausangate Circuit and Machu Picchu

This was a fantastic trek which started with two days acclimatisation / sightseeing in Cusco and Ollantaytambo. Claudio (our guide) was very passionate and informative about Inca culture and history. We then moved to the mountains and spent eight days trekking the Ausangate circuit. This included crossing two passes over 5000m which was a first for me and a great experience. The scenery spectacular and is more beautiful than the photos show on the KE website. The local support crew were very har d working packing and unpacking equipment every day leaving us to concentrate on the walking. The food was excellent and I was amazed at the variety and quality of food produced every day. Claudio and his assistant David were excellent guides making sure we were going informed of the day's plans and nature of the terrain that we would follow. It does go dark early (6.00. / 6.30 pm) and evening meal was served at 7.00pm so I would take book / Kindle / playing cards to occupy this part of the day.

A little bit of everything!

Swiss High Level Route

Being used to tent camping the huts on this route are luxurious! Good food and nice bathrooms; even hot showers at the Vignettes Hut! The climbing was great, lots of crevasses, a couple of minor repels, and even a little via ferrata on the way up to the Bertol Hut! Didn't worry about crevasses as our guide, Graham, had us covered safety wise. Definitely would recommend this hike if you want a taste of everything and are looking to avoid a 2 week grind. I would note that Day 5 took more like 9 - 10 hours of hiking vs the 6 - 7 listed, so make sure you are ready for a couple of long days. Bonus: Since you end in Saas Fee you can also make a self climb up the Allalinhorn (4k meter peak) the morning of the departure day to finish things off!

Wonderful Peruvian Trek full of Variety

Choquequirao to Machu Picchu

My Husband 17 year old daughter and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Peru walking the Choquequirao to Machu Picchu trail. From start to finish we have been so well looked after by Ruben our guide and his team. The trek is absolutely stunning ,quiet -we hardly met any other people- and challenging at the same time. The view on our first pass we will never forget and we were lucky enough to see condors as we arrived on the top. The food on trek was excellent and every day we were w oken with a cup of tea, washing bowl, facecloth and soap. On the cold nights we even had hot water bottles! We finished our time in Peru with a trip to the Jungle also to be recommended- my daughter and I were not so keen on the very large creepy crawlies on the night hike especially the extremely large terantulas!!! We have come back from our holiday with memories and experiences we will never forget and have also made some great friends and met some wonderful Peruvian people.

Very varied and a great insight

Temples and Tea Trails of Sri Lanka

I had a great time on this trip. It gave a good mix of walking, sightseeing and experiences. Being in the hill country was great as there are few tourists and the scenery is stunning. The contrast across the trip in climate and scenery was a pleasant surprise - make sure you pack that waterproof, hat & gloves from the equipment list (as well as the suncream)! It is a very busy schedule though so there isn't much free time to explore independently. The local guide was really enthusia stic to show us different experiences and insights into Sri Lankan life. We were lucky to get a bonus train ride to experience the madness of hanging your legs outside a speeding train! If you get the chance, I'd recommend doing it, if only to give your daily commute a whole new perspective. Overall, it was a great two weeks. The walking is challenging at times; nothing too rough, but still giving good views (well, except for the clouds at Adam's Peak). The heat is a factor though so be prepared to sweat!

Bucket list trip!

High Peaks of the Balkans

The Peaks of the Balkans trek was attractive to me because it offered a challenging itinerary in a little more than the course of a week. It was amazing that so much could be experienced and achieved in this short period of time. Each day had something special. The scenery was fantastic (a cross between the Grand Tetons of Wyoming and Yosemite National Park)..... without the crowds. We crossed in and out of four countries that just a few years ago were communist and completely inaccessible to th e western world. As a tight knit group we conquered the objectives without a hitch. There were occasional long days but our enthusiastic/experienced guide, Ardit, never tired and was right there if you needed any type of assistance on the trek. He knew the trails, the people, and the history so well because he was was born and raised in the heart of it. The food was very good and plentiful. A variety of breads, cheeses, vegetables, and meats were served and everything seemed to be so fresh from local sources or homemade. On restaurant days, we were always taken to really great places that scored near or at the top of Trip Advisors rankings. I've always enjoyed KE's trips (I've been on nine) because they always seem to offer unique itineraries and experiences. This trek was one of my favorites.

Beautiful and challenging alpine walking

The Ecrins Circuit - GR54

The Ecrins trip travels through classical Alpine scenery of rugged peaks, meadows, lakes and waterfalls. We encountered other walkers, but it is quieter than other regions of the French Alps and wildlife is abundant. Our local guide was excellent and made the holiday a five star experience for us. The walking is not technically difficult or exposed, but the accommodation is mainly in the valleys so the walking involves big ascents and descents every day, and so a good level of fitness is require d as reflected by the KE rating. The accommodation was mostly dormitory based, clean and simple. The food was excellent. We had hot and sunny days at the start of the week, followed by rain, cool sunshine and finally snow on the last day, so it is important to be fully prepared for all weather regardless of the forecast.

A brilliant family holiday!

Island Hopping Active Family Holiday in Sicily, Italy

A great trip, the first time for 10 and 12 year old boys on such an expedition. Set up perfectly on Day 1 with a hike up to the top of Mount Vulcana, brilliant boat trip and walk around Stromboli (saw 3 lava eruptions from the boat) and the hike to the top of Etna was simply amazing. The sea swimming was perfect and plenty of chances to cool down in the beautiful warm waters of the Med. Quite chilly at the top of Etna, fleeces were very much needed. Pack light if at all possible as there are a c ouple of transfers where you need to carry baggage quite a distance. Overall, a simply fantastic trip.

The most spectacular and best Andean trek for those with time constraints.

Ausangate Circuit and Machu Picchu

We have hiked extensively in the past 11 years around the world's mountainous regions - European alps (France/Italy/Austria/Switzerland/Slovenia), USA Rockies and Sierra Nevada, Canadian Rockies, New Zealand, Patagonia, Annapurna Circuit Nepal and this year Peru - Huayhuash, Santa Cruze/Ulta and Ausangate. Without doubt this Ausangate Trek is truly spectacular and rates as one of the top 4 places we have been. The big deal is that the trek, although high altitude, is "accessible", doesn't take too long (8 nights and shorter and less difficult than the Huayhuash trek), and it's uncrowded and allows the most close-up views of 6000m peaks we have ever come across. Just stunning! If you like mountain vistas - don't waste your time on busy Inca trails to Machu Picchu. Also I'd recommend this one above Mt Kilimanjaro. It's much better "bang for your money". The mountainous and epic valley landscape views are better than the featureless and distant flat horizon seen from the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro.
