Learn New Skills on an Adventure Holiday

It’s never too late to learn a new skill. Many of trips incorporate new experiences. This includes learning to cook on the family Vietnam adventure, after buying ingredients at a floating market, or baking chapattis on the Heritage Trails of Rajastan. While in Finland you can spend a whole day learning vital winter survival skills, including building an igloo and ice fishing.

However; we have some incredible trips that are designed specifically to teach you new adventure skills.

Become an Alpine mountaineer

A simply unbeatable walking holiday, adventure trekking high in the Swiss-Italian Alps with easy climbing to Alpine summits. This fantastic walking and climbing holiday begins with an afternoon of Alpine glacier skills training at the Gandegg Hut above Zermatt, in the shadow of the iconic Matterhorn. The Breithorn (4164m) is our first climbing objective, before trekking the long descent into Italy's picturesque Valle di Gressoney. Walking back up to the lively Gnifetti Refuge, high on the south side of Monte Rosa, sets us up for one of the finest of all trekking days in the Italian Alps, traversing the Lisjoch/Colle del Lys into Switzerland.

Learn to dog sled

Learn how to dog sled like a real musher, on this beginner’s dog sledding holiday based 150km north of the Arctic Circle in magical Swedish Lapland; one of Europe’s last true wildernesses. Under expert guidance, we will begin the week with our own sled and small team of dogs, allowing us to quickly master the basic technique. Then, over the subsequent days, two will share a sled and take turns to lead a larger husky team on progressively longer trails out across the vast winter landscape of Northern Sweden. Our home-from-home for the week is a cosy, ‘off grid’, lodge and dog camp, located next to a frozen lake far from civilisation, where we will be well looked after (and well fed!) by our fantastic hosts. During the course of the week, we can also enjoy immersing ourselves in Swedish traditions and customs, drilling holes in the frozen lake to fish for perch, relaxing in the traditional wood-fired sauna (and braving the obligatory invigorating dip in the specially prepared ice-hole after!) and cooking food over an open fire. We will even have the opportunity to face the arctic night and sleep out under the stars in wait for the Northern Lights.
